The On-Call Advocate at the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center (BVAC) provides shelter coverage and crisis support for victims of crime during weekends, overnight, and holiday shifts. This role assists individuals contacting the Victims of Crime Helpline by providing guidance, completing intakes, making referrals, and maintaining records, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all who rely on BVAC services.

ON-CALL ADVOCATE
GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for the daily operations of the shelter and support for the statewide Victims of Crime Helpline.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide coverage for shelter and the Victims of Crime Helpline during weekend, overnight, and/or holiday shifts.
- Supports residents and functions of shelter on site. Receives and responds to all calls to the Victims of Crime Helpline from victims in crisis, police, medical personnel, and others. Gives information on services provided, determines appropriateness for shelter residency, completes intakes, and makes referrals as necessary.
- Maintain a daily log of resident activities, changes, and needs. Maintains records for all calls taken on the Victims of Crime Helpline
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- The ability to work independently and without close supervision.
- Verbal communication skills to give information to callers.
- The ability to appropriately, effectively, and calmly deal with stressful or emergency situations.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- A combination of education and experience demonstrating acquisition of the SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED.
- A level of knowledge equivalent to that which would be acquired by completion of an Associate’s Degree or higher
- Previous experience demonstrating the ability to work independently and responsibly is required

The Facilities Maintenance Assistant at the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center (BVAC) is responsible for performing a variety of routine maintenance tasks to ensure that buildings, equipment, and grounds are well-maintained. This role ensures that the facilities remain safe, functional, and presentable for staff, clients, and visitors. The Facilities Maintenance Assistant helps to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all who use BVAC services.
Expected Hours: 30 – 35 hours per week
Schedule:
- 8-hour shift
- Day shift
- Holidays
- Monday to Friday
- Nights and weekends as needed
- On-call availability
Key Responsibilities:
∙ Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment, systems, and building infrastructure.
∙ Troubleshoot and repair basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
∙ Repair or replace damaged fixtures, such as doors, windows, and locks.
∙ Conduct basic carpentry, painting, and patching of walls, floors, and ceilings.
∙ Maintain grounds, including lawn care, snow removal, and trash collection.
∙ Respond promptly and effectively to emergency maintenance requests.
∙ Work with external contractors for larger repairs or installations when necessary.
∙ Maintain accurate maintenance logs and ensure compliance with safety and building regulations.
∙ Perform routine cleaning tasks as needed to ensure a clean and safe environment.
∙ Safely and efficiently operate and maintain tools and equipment.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:
∙ Proven experience in facilities maintenance, including knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
∙ Proficiency in using tools and performing basic repairs.
∙ Familiarity with logic controllers and the ability to troubleshoot related issues.
∙ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
∙ A customer service-oriented mindset and the ability to work well under pressure.
∙ Ability to work independently and collaborate with team members effectively.
Sign-On Bonus:
- A sign-on bonus of $1250, paid in two installments: $1250 after 6 months of employment, and $1250 after 1 year of employment.
