Part-Time Shelter Advocate
Position Overview:
The Part-Time Financial Assistant will work closely with both the Finance Manager and the Executive Director, contributing to the nonprofit financial operations of the center. This position will be primarily responsible for performing accounting and fiscal tasks, including handling accounts payable, providing support to the monthly billing processes, ensuring accurate tracking of grant expenditures, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and grant guidelines to support the mission of the organization.
Pay: $25.00 per hour.

ON-CALL ADVOCATE
GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for the daily operations of the shelter and support for the statewide Victims of Crime Helpline.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide coverage for shelter and the Victims of Crime Helpline during weekend, overnight, and/or holiday shifts.
- Supports residents and functions of shelter on site. Receives and responds to all calls to the Victims of Crime Helpline from victims in crisis, police, medical personnel, and others. Gives information on services provided, determines appropriateness for shelter residency, completes intakes, and makes referrals as necessary.
- Maintain a daily log of resident activities, changes, and needs. Maintains records for all calls taken on the Victims of Crime Helpline
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- The ability to work independently and without close supervision.
- Verbal communication skills to give information to callers.
- The ability to appropriately, effectively, and calmly deal with stressful or emergency situations.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- A combination of education and experience demonstrating acquisition of the SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED.
- A level of knowledge equivalent to that which would be acquired by completion of an Associate’s Degree or higher
- Previous experience demonstrating the ability to work independently and responsibly is required

Facilities Maintenance Assistant
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant at the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center (BVAC) is responsible for performing a variety of routine maintenance tasks to ensure that buildings, equipment, and grounds are well-maintained. This role ensures that the facilities remain safe, functional, and presentable for staff, clients, and visitors. The Facilities Maintenance Assistant helps to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all who use BVAC services.
Expected Hours: 30 – 35 hours per week
Schedule:
- 8-hour shift
- Day shift
- Holidays
- Monday to Friday
- Nights and weekends as needed
- On-call availability
Key Responsibilities:
∙ Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment, systems, and building infrastructure.
∙ Troubleshoot and repair basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
∙ Repair or replace damaged fixtures, such as doors, windows, and locks.
∙ Conduct basic carpentry, painting, and patching of walls, floors, and ceilings.
∙ Maintain grounds, including lawn care, snow removal, and trash collection.
∙ Respond promptly and effectively to emergency maintenance requests.
∙ Work with external contractors for larger repairs or installations when necessary.
∙ Maintain accurate maintenance logs and ensure compliance with safety and building regulations.
∙ Perform routine cleaning tasks as needed to ensure a clean and safe environment.
∙ Safely and efficiently operate and maintain tools and equipment.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:
∙ Proven experience in facilities maintenance, including knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
∙ Proficiency in using tools and performing basic repairs.
∙ Familiarity with logic controllers and the ability to troubleshoot related issues.

Part-Time Financial Assistant

- Manage non-profit financial and accounting functions, ensuring proper allocation of revenues and expenses across multiple funding sources and programs.
- Provide support to the monthly billing processes, collaborating closely with the Finance Manager to compile billing data, monitor monthly grand expenditures, and verify figures for timely financial submissions.
- Provide comprehensive billing backup and support, helping to compile necessary documentation and organize source files required for grant reimbursements and invoices.
- Process accounts payable, maintaining strict adherence to internal controls.
- Maintain and organize financial records chronologically, ensuring clear audit trails for federal, state, and private grant documentation.
- Assist with annual single audit.
- Assist with additional fiscal tasks and report preparation as needed to support the overall functioning and audit readiness of the agency.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Proven experience with QuickBooks Online in a professional capacity.
- Direct experience with grant billing, accrual accounting methodology, and non-profit financial compliance is highly preferred.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills for managing diverse funding streams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with program directors and external funders.
- Ability to learn new processes and adapt to evolving compliance requirements.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Previous accounting or financial management experience, ideally within a non-profit environment or managing grant-funded budgets.

Job Type: Part-time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 20 hours per week, with some flexibility.
Work Location: In person, Pawtucket, RI (candidates must be able to reliably commute).

Case Manager
The Case Manager provides trauma-informed case management, advocacy, crisis intervention, and resource coordination to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, and other crimes. This position supports survivors residing in emergency shelter by increasing safety, accessing essential services, overcoming barriers, and achieving long-term stability and independence. The Case Manager works collaboratively with survivors to identify strengths, establish goals, develop safety plans, and connect with community resources while promoting empowerment and self-determination.
Expected Hours: 37.5 hours a week.
- Case Management and Advocacy:
∙ Provide survivor-centered, trauma-informed case management, advocacy, crisis intervention, and safety planning services.
∙ Conduct intake assessments to identify client needs, strengths, risks, and service goals.
Develop and maintain individualized service plans that address safety, health care, legal needs, financial stability, education, housing stability, and long-term independence.
∙ Monitor client progress, maintain regular contact, and revise service plans as needed.
∙ Support clients in developing life skills, increasing self-sufficiency, and achieving individualized goals.
∙ Provide information, referrals, and advocacy related to community resources and victim services.
∙ Assist survivors in navigating systems and accessing resources while promoting self-determination and empowerment.
Shelter and Crisis Services:
∙ Provide coverage for shelter operations assigned, including resident support and crisis intervention.
∙ Staff the Victims of Crime Helpline as required, responding to crisis calls, conducting screenings, intakes, and providing information, referrals, and emotional support.
∙ Respond appropriately and effectively to emergencies, crises, and incidents affecting client safety and well-being.
Provide emotional support and advocacy to shelter residents and hotline callers.
Documentation and Compliance:
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records, case notes, service plans, and program documentation.
Ensure compliance with agency, state, and federal documentation requirements.
Protect client confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws.
Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and agency mission.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
∙ Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, or a related field required.
∙ Minimum of one (1) year of experience in case management, advocacy, human services, or a related field preferred.
∙ Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, or other forms of victimization strongly preferred.
∙ Experience providing trauma-informed services preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
∙ Knowledge of trauma-informed care, victim advocacy principles, and crisis intervention techniques.
Understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, and the impact of trauma.
∙ Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and life experiences.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Bilingual in English/Spanish skills are desirable.

SASP Advocate- 2nd Shift
The SASP Advocate will be responsible for providing comprehensive services to victims/survivors of sexual assault. Using a trauma-informed approach, the SASP advocate will provide a continuum of services, including crisis intervention, hospital accompaniment, law enforcement support, and advocacy through the criminal justice process. The SASP advocate will be responsible for helping address gaps in services while providing case management for those affected by sexual assault.
Job description:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Providing crisis intervention services and referrals
- Referrals to be received through existing 24-hour hotline service.
2. Accompany and advocate through medical, criminal justice, and social support systems, including medical facilities, police, and court proceedings.
4. Provide short-term individual and group support services.
5. Connect clients to other programming, including court advocacy, LEA’s and housing opportunities.
6. Provide on-going follow-up and support through case management.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
- Understanding of sexual assault issues.

- Ability to deal effectively in stressful situations and to handle crises as they arise.

Law Enforcement Advocate
GENERAL SUMMARY: Full-time position with a benefit package available. Responsible for implementing the Law Enforcement Advocate Program in collaboration with Providence, Cumberland, Central Falls, East Providence, and Woonsocket Police Departments.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide information and assistance to police officers working with victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
- Meet with victims either on scene (with police accompaniment), at the police department, or at the hospital following the incident or within a few days as a follow-up. Refer victims to additional services as necessary.
- Generate reports and statistics.
- Assist with training programs for police officers, community members, and other agencies on sexual assault and domestic violence issues.
- Represents the agency at community-based meetings, roundtables, conferences, and sexual assault/domestic violence police in-service trainings as needed.
- Provide hospital and court accompaniment to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- A high level of interpersonal skills to provide assistance to victims and to deal effectively with all segments of the community.
- Organizational and analytical abilities to deal with difficult human and administrative problems.
- An understanding of issues related to sexual assault, sexual abuse, and domestic violence.
- Ability to deal effectively in stressful situations and to handle crisis as they arise.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Portuguese required.
