Join our team as an Accounts Payable Specialist
The Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center (BVAC) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented accounts payable specialist to join our finance team. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this exempt role is responsible for providing financial support to our multi-office non-profit organization.
Key responsibilities include maintaining the general ledger, supporting payroll functions, handling bank and account reconciliations, preparing financial reports, and ensuring company-wide compliance with internal controls. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills are essential, along with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare billing reports monthly.
- Prepare and post journal entries for the general ledger.
- Maintain and track payments to vendors.
- Generate monthly financial statements and provide analysis to support decision-making.
- Assist independent auditors during the annual audit process.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and maintain financial integrity across the organization.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Familiarity with accounting practices specific to non-profit organizations.
- Proficient in QuickBooks online or similar accounting software, and skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- Non-profit experience preferred.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience.
- Experience in payroll processing; familiarity with Paychex Flex is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Prior experience in a non-profit environment is highly desirable.
