The Helpline Advocate at the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center (BVAC) is responsible for answering the Victims of Crime Helpline, providing support, information, and referrals to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, police, medical personnel, and other individuals in crisis. This position is critical in providing immediate assistance and ensuring clients receive the necessary resources to address their situations.

Job Type: Full-time, First Shift (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) Pay: $18.50 per hour Sign-On Bonus: $5,000 (paid $2,500 after 6 months, and $2,500 after 1 year)

Key Responsibilities:

1. Answer the Victims of Crime Helpline: Respond to calls from victims in crisis, law enforcement, medical professionals, and others. Provide information about available services and make appropriate referrals as needed.

2. Maintain Call Logs: Keep a comprehensive log of all incoming calls to the Victims of Crime Helpline.

3. Provide Support: Offer emotional support and guidance to individuals reaching out for help, assisting them in navigating the resources available.

4. Perform Administrative Tasks: Carry out all tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the helpline, including record-keeping and follow-up.

5. Additional Duties: Participate in other duties as required to ensure the smooth operation of the agency.

1. Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to support and assist clients in difficult and emotional situations.

2. Verbal Communication: Clear and effective communication to represent the agency professionally on the phone and through other forms of communication.

3. Crisis Management: Ability to effectively handle stressful or crisis situations with empathy and sensitivity.

4. Commitment to Victims: Dedication to addressing the needs of families and individuals in crisis, particularly those impacted by domestic violence.

5. Multitasking Ability: Ability to manage multiple tasks and cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

· The work environment may be noisy with occasional exposure to communicable diseases (e.g., cold, flu, viruses).

· A valid driver’s license and automobile insurance are required for the role.

 

Minimum Education and Experience:

· A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary skills for the role.

· An Associate’s Degree with relevant experience is preferred.

· Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) is preferred.
