The Residential Services Unit is committed to helping survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault reclaim their lives through compassionate, voluntary support services. Our programs are designed to meet survivors where they are, offering immediate safety, emotional support, and long-term stability.

We believe that safety is just the beginning. That’s why we provide a full continuum of care, from emergency shelter to transitional housing, with personalized advocacy and case management every step of the way.

Trusted Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Support in Rhode Island

Emergency Shelter

A safe and confidential refuge for victims of interpersonal violence and their families. The Safe Home campus provides 51 beds and 24/7 on-site comprehensive support services that include:
  • Safety planning and ongoing case management
  • Specialized referrals and goal setting
  • Support with employment and housing
  • Multi-faceted team approach
  • Individual and group counseling

Transitional Housing Services

A vital bridge between emergency shelter and sustainable housing, THP supports survivors in rebuilding their lives with stability and empowerment. The program offers support that includes the following: 

  • Temporary housing (up to 24 months)
  • Assistance in securing permanent housing
  • Financial literacy & budgeting support
  • Referrals and goal setting
  • Individual and group counseling

We believe healing happens through connection and so we prioritize consistent intake and referral standards, ensuring fair access and seamless transitions across services. Our team participates in regular case reviews that focus on survivor goals at the center of all decision-making. We also encourage collaboration across our programming and maintaining close relationships with trusted partners and community stakeholders.

What Is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior used to gain power and control over a partner or family member. It can be physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, or financial. At BVAC, we educate survivors and communities on how to recognize the signs of abuse and how to take action safely.
